Your Independence Day

July 4th 2009, America will celebrate 233 years of Independence. Many American will celebrate barbecuing, watching fireworks with their families, and being thankful to live in a country of freedom. However freedom did not come by cheap; meaning it was not free and a price had to be paid by committed leaders and soldiers to establish the United States of America.
Almost 2000 years ago a man walked on this Earth who was committed to pay the price; that every man may have the opportunity to have freedom and salvation; a spiritual freedom from their past, from their hopelessness, and most importantly from their sins. "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." (Matt 1:21)
Jesus Christ came preaching the gospel that we may be set free and have liberty to live for Him, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted , to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised." (Luke 4:18)
You can personally have your own spiritual Independence Day by knowing truth! And what is truth? This question was asked by Pontius Pilate to Jesus Christ just before his passion (John 18:38) and unbeknown to Pilate; he was staring right at truth. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6) and it is by truth that will set a man free from sin, "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32)
Truth is Jesus Christ and the power of His saving message, the gospel (the good news) which is applied by obeying Acts 2:38 and living a holy and righteous life. And when you experience your own spiritual Independence Day there will also be a great celebration in heaven. The angels will celebrate when you repent and turn toward the Lord, "Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. " (Luke 15:10) Happy Independence Day!
